Welcome to Musical Explorers!

Welcome to Musical Explorers!

In 2019-2020, SMF is proud to continue Musical Explorers, a year-round program for grades K-2 in partnership with Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute. If your school is committed to creative teaching and learning, join us!

You and your students can be Musical Explorers! Musical Explorers builds basic music skills in the classroom as children learn songs from different cultures, reflect on their own communities, and develop listening and singing skills. During the 2019-20 season, students in grades K-2 explore various music styles including African-American Spirituals, Hip-Hop, Folk Music, Salsa, Klezmer Music and Brass Ensemble, embarking on a musical journey through the cultures found in and around the Southeastern United States. Students meet and interact with the professional musicians featured in the program during culminating concerts each semester at Savannah’s Trustees Theater. Musical Explorers is open to any K-2 teacher.

Program Features:

  • Two interactive concerts (fall and spring) per year in downtown Savannah featuring multicultural vocalists
  • Two professional development workshops for participating teachers (fall and spring)
  • A 100+ page printed Teacher Guide with accompanying CD and online, interactive website, featuring lessons and creative extensions for yearlong coursework, geared toward both music and general classroom teachers
  • Online, printable student activities
